I've found in some fandoms (the ones I've noticed this in are videogame fandoms) that femslash fics can be slow-burn hits. They might not get a lot of love when they're first posted but because there's so few of them, people will keep on finding your fics for years. And if you're willing to post on FFN femslash can get a decent amount of attention from the teenage boys there, albeit partly in the form of really weeeird comments.

video game fandoms seem to have a really different dynamic versus fandoms from other mediums from what I've seen, though. Maybe I just have GREAT TASTE but femslash also just seems more common on average in game fandoms (obviously still less though) -- and in general games just tend to have a wildly different gender ratio from popular tv shows, movies, etc.

The majority of my fandoms are game fandoms though (and what aren't are pretty female focused as is) so I don't really know how accurate this is, I'm just saying this from the general impression I get from these kinds of conversations.
