Yeah, I don't like how weird quiet nerdy dudes are immediately assumed to be manipulative creepers in some circles. Or how "nice guy" is now a code word for "pretending-to-be-nice guy." It's just such a generic phrase with no literal meaning beyond... A guy. Who is nice. :/ Can't we all just say what we mean and call those people two-faced douchebags? Is opposite day!?

Similarly, I hate the whole "LOL this movie is a pathetic male fantasy what girl worth a damn would be attracted to this shy nerdy unassuming dude!?" thing. Um, other nerds? Fuck, it's like the new "guys don't make passes at girls who wear glasses."

It's because those douchebags call THEMSELVES nice guys, ergo the origin of the term; it's just that women started using it ironically when they started calling them out on it. But most places I've seen make a point to call them Nice Guys or "nice guys" to differentiate between them and, well, actual nice guys.

Yeah, I know that's where it comes from, but I dunno. People claim to be a lot of things when they have ulterior motives, and you don't really see any others used as insults. Except for maybe the sarcastic use of "do-gooder," which I actually support. Which might make some sense, because it's more about what you do than what you are inside, and people who pretend to be "nice" generally aren't, so don't associate niceness with those people? I HAVE NO IDEA.
