Just realized nobody on my LJ flist is talking about Syria. Not that I really mind, the whole thing disgusts me, but there was a time the second anything like this happened or was being discussed, my flist just exploded with opinions. I don't think there was much noise about Russia's new laws, either. Is LJ becoming less social activism focused than it used to be?

go to tumblr

Seconding this. My entire dash for the past few days has been about Syria; I finally had to tumblr savior it.

LJ doesn't seem to be talking about anything as of late. It's all over Twitter and tumblr for me.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-05 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
So...what is it you want to talk about Syria?

Personally, I think this whole US, "We need to send a warning to Syria" is less about Syria and more about Russia. The Russia government has been rattling its sabers lately and going Iron Curtain with its mentality. I feel like this going to be The Cold War v. 2.0

It's not the Cold War, for Pete's sake, it's great power politics the way it's always been (or at the very least the way it's been since the invention of the nation state). It's (mostly) China, Russia, and the US doing what great powers have always done. To a lesser extent the EU as well. It's as much the Great Game as it is the Iron Curtain.

Seconding the anon above me; it feels less like the Cold War 2.0 and more like The Great Game 2.0, only with more international players.

And don't forget the regional power plays! Yay neighboring countries. *sarcasm*

(Anonymous) 2013-09-06 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
nah, it's the same old dick-waving and fighting over resources and money (it is about Russia, though)

(Anonymous) 2013-09-06 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
yeah, they most emigrated to tumblr for those sorts of discussions

(Anonymous) 2013-09-06 03:26 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not sure I'd call it a discussion so much as "try to scream their opinions louder than everyone else."

(Anonymous) 2013-09-06 01:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, my LJ is normally mostly dead and right now it's all politics because our country is voting so...syria takes a backburner.

Facebook has it covered tho
