I think OP meant that the "not that kind of doctor" comment implies that he's a different type of doctor, as in a doctor of medicine which the OP doesn't think is true. (I don't know MCU or the comics enough to debate this fact). FYI OP, you can have a doctorate in Phycics.

Yes. I get that. The issue here is NOT me failing to understand the joke; the issue is that he had no problem acting as an MD (which, afaik, he isn't) in India at the beginning of The Avengers, but begging off acting as a psychiatrist in the stinger of IM3 because he isn't one. I saw that as hypocrisy. I KNOW you can have a doctorate in any academic field, and that Bruce has a PhD in physics, and that that's the joke. That's not relevant to my objection.

Same here, OP. It's annoying when people try to make him things that he's really not but somehow fandom doesn't seem to care.

Yeah. It really gets me when in fic, the other Avengers insist on having Bruce treat them rather than actual doctors (whether on SHIELD's medical staff or otherwise). I mean, I get the trust issues involved with being famous superheroes/spies and being a patient, but the Avengers aren't exactly getting scraped knees and head colds in these fics.
