Stop and think for a fucking second

Dr. Banner is a genius. He has devoted most of his time in this part of his life to learning biology. His project in this continuity involved biological applications of his research. Most of his more recent studies are on exotic biology sure, but you really don't think he might have picked up some general medical knowledge along the way? And could cement it by actually applying himself to that research for a while?

Learning biology =/= Medical doctor

Better than the alternative that they had.

Sure, but still doesn't makes him a Medical Doctor (though some can have a BA in Biology). I majored on molecular biology and I'm not going to start treating patients any time soon.

Bruce Banner went to medical school before starting at CIT.

You will if you are in an underdeveloped region, someone comes to you with an illness or injury, and they do not have any other options. Or at least I certainly hope you would.

There was a 7 year old kid in India that did surgery on people after having read medical books. People will get any help they deem cheap and worth it in the end. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Akrit_Jaswal

I'd imagine it went something like... Someone is sick. Bruce ends up helping because he's a fucking nice guy, then people start coming to him for help and he can't stop because he's a fucking nice guy.

Because clearly not doing anything and letting the hypothetical people suffer would have been a better option...

Silly defensive anon, nobody is saying that.

What the fuck does that have to do with anything?

Are you really that stuck on specifically the title of doctor?

Are you autistic? I'm seriously asking this now cause I obviously misunderstood what was bothering you about this.

Re: Stop and think for a fucking second

(Anonymous) 2013-09-06 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
You are the one who sounds autistic (trying not to use a slur here).

Re: Stop and think for a fucking second

(Anonymous) 2013-09-06 11:58 pm (UTC)(link)
ffs autistic is not a slur. Stop hopping around going "slur! offensive word! blah blah blah!" none of us can take you seriously because all you do is complain and never discuss.

Um, I was saying that him as a "not a doctor" was better than the alternative that the people had. So, um I was agreeing with you.

Look at you expecting people to think. Silly.

OP

Yeah, he'd have a lot of background knowledge, but most of it is actually probably going to be pretty narrow and filtered through the lens of how it applied to his research. Science and academia have gotten really narrowly focused in the past few decades, significantly favoring depth over breadth. He might be able to do some basic things, but he wouldn't have the diagnostic or treatment expertise of an actual physician. If he found some farmer in India who was suffering from radiation poisoning somehow? Sure, Bruce is your guy. But for diseases more common to the region, his lack of specific training might cause him to make dangerous mistakes.

It's better than nothing, which is pretty much the alternative to Bruce for a lot of people around the world.
