Do you count comic book canon? Some people see it as distinct from MCU canon (which I do for a lot of things as well).

http://incrediblehulkonline.com/bannerhistory.html

"Bruce attended Desert State University in undergraduate college. ...

Bruce next attended an unknown medical college where he met Angela Lipscombe and started a relationship with her....

Bruce was able to attend graduate school at the California Institute of Technology. He studied nuclear physics."

In that canon, he does have medical training to be "that kind" of doctor. I've not yet seen The Incredible Hulk, so I do not know if it was specifically contradicted in that canon. (Although on the television show, Dr. Banner was a medical doctor (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Incredible_Hulk_(TV_series)#Premise "David Bruce Banner, M.D., Ph.D...."), so it has carried over to some canons.)

OP

I don't know if that's the case in MCU canon; it seems like they streamlined a lot of the characters' backstories for the MCU. (Heck, there's still a lot of debate over whether Natasha has any sort of superhuman enhancements or not in the MCU.) As far as I know, there hasn't been any specific reference to Bruce having an MD (so I figured he wouldn't), but it's loose enough that they could probably add it in later and not contradict anything.

I suppose I just assumed that he'd had the medical training, given that he was treating people. But, again, as I said, I've only seen Banner in Avengers as far as the MCU goes, so it could have been retconned/contradicted/whatever.

(On that note, I'm hoping the Natasha background gets at least touched upon in CA2. I would really love for her to get her own movie, but I'm not holding my breath.)

OP

I would really love for Natasha to get her own movie too. I'm guessing, given what the plot is going to involve, they won't be able to avoid addressing at least some of Natasha's backstory, at least.

That is what I had hoped/assumed as soon as I heard snippets of what the plot was going to be about. *crosses fingers*

I love comic books and superhero movies, don't get me wrong (I've read and seen a ton of them), but I am always a little disappointed when they do yet another non-female-character-centric movie before doing one for, say, Natasha or Wonder Woman. I mean, come on, Guardians of the Galaxy with a freaking raccoon is made first? Sigh...
