This, this is what I figured. Dunno why OP is all stuck on how he's not a psychologist doctor but god forbid he do some basic first aid on people in need

Because it didn't look like "basic first aid." If that had been all it was, there wouldn't be an issue, but (for instance) Natasha lured him out with a little girl claiming to have a bedridden, seriously ill father. What the hell does a physicist know about that kind of illness? It just reeked of Bruce trying to expiate his own guilt by offering a service that he lacked the qualifications or proficiency to offer to people without the money or options to turn him down.

Because a little girl cannot treat her father, she goes to the person she knows with the most medical knowledge.
Just because he's a physicist (and apparent genius) does not mean he doesn't have knowledge of anything else, even if it is just how to treat the basics of an illness. Have you never attended a first aid class? They can teach a shitload in basic care to help a person hold on until they get real treatment. It's not all CPR. He does not need to be Doctor, M.D to help people out in need.

It didn't reek of anything. It's a dude, helping out sick people with what knowledge he has. Yes he's offering a service, but the people are going to him because they need him. Believe it or not, unqualified "doctors" are common in such areas because the alternative is no-one.

The impression I got was the "can't say no, I'm a nice guy with a hint of knowledge" combined with the implication that there was some particular kind of illness going around that he was trying to treat in others? He does say "like them?" and indicate the sick children when the little girl comes in. I assumed there was an epidemic type setting, and he was doing what he could to help/make comfortable the people affected.
