This is a cute secret though like others I don't get the point of your sister doing that... but yeah, I don't know the whole story so whatever. Thing is if you think that the book's message is cheap and hollow just because it doesn't contain something lofty about healing through friendship you have missed the whole point of the book. I say this as someone who doesn't even like the book.

To extent I agree but we've no idea what the sister's edited version was. Assuming it wasn't all sunshine and rainbows (and I don't see how it could be considering everything that came before that), perhaps the same message was explored in a different way and it worked better for the OP.

I've heard and seen plenty of altered versions of classic literature. Some worked for me, some didn't, but the message didn't change overall. And, yeah, I'm not being a shit, I'm just saying you never know.
