Yeah, but here's the problem. If you add the ALP and Greens members, you get 35, if you add the Coalition and that one DLP guy, you get 34. On paper, that means the left has just that bit more.

But there are SEVEN other members. Xenophon, two Palmers, a Family First, a Liberal Democratic guy who may have got in SOLELY because he was in the first column on the ballot and people may have thought he was, well, the Libs... and the Australian Sports Party and Australian Motor Enthusiasts Party.

Assuming Xenophon sides with the ALP/Greens (he's sided with the Greens a lot in the past) and Family First sides with the Coalition, that's 36/35, leaving... two Palmers, Lib-Dem, the sports party, and the motor enthusiasts party. That is goddamn TERRIFYING for the balance of power!

Plus, if Abbott does get control of the senate? He can pass every single toxic, hateful thing he can think of. If he doesn't, it could go to double dissolution next year, and then the senate will be even more of a clusterfuck than it already is.

It's just... augh.
