Personally, I think it's a case of non-fans jumping on the band wagon of the latest craze just to feel morally superior. I have come across one too many threads where the person standing on their soap box spouting SJW jargon had only the faintest idea of the fandom they were trying to be a part of. And most of the information was gleamed off of sites like Wikipedia.
