OP's of secrets popping in

(Anonymous) 2013-09-09 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
Not aimed at any particular OP, but I've noticed that recently we've had a lot more OP's of secrets popping in for discussions - and I can see an OP coming in to clarify something. Only so much space on a secret.

but idk how I feel about the amount of OP's of late who sit and lurk in the discussion, sometimes trying to drive the course. kinda ruining the point of it being a secret, even if they're staying anon.

Your feelings FS?

Some secrets are from f!s regulars, who generally spend quite a bit of time here. And even if they're not from regulars, sometimes people just want to talk about stuff. Why should reactions be the only people participating in a secret thread? This goes for double if it's a secret for something with a small/inactive fanbase.

I prefer the OPs chiming in in the comments because

1) if they can come to specify details, their secrets have less text and are more likely to be read than to be skipped over

2) they generate more discussions, and more activity in the comm is a-okay in my book

This. Also, I'd expect joining in the discussion is half the fun for most OP's.

I don't see a downside. Then again, maybe I'm biased because in the past I have discussed stuff as the OP. (Normally for clarification but occasionally to answer a question.)

I mean, shiz, normally when I respond to a secret I address it to the OP. I tell them what they did was stupid, or that they're cute, or I question them. Why shouldn't they respond if I'm talking directly to them?

Unless they deanon, I don't see how they're defeating the point? Most of the time they're clarifying their secret, arguing a point, thanking commenters or just plain contributing to the discussion, none of which I have a problem with or understand why anyone would have a problem with.
