I don't blame you for backbuttoning out of fic. There are lots of reasons I do. But as to the rest of it? Let people ID however they want to. Who cares if it sounds to you like it's made up? A random internet stranger's sexuality doesn't affect you so move on and don't worry about it.

Agreed. I don't care how people identify in real life--more power to them if they can actually define some really complex parts of their psyche. (I personally can't.)

But in terms of fic? I'm gonna have to agree with the OP. Having a character identify as one of the rarer sexualities is like the red flag of bad fic, with few exceptions.

Spot on! I would be highly confused though if a made up sexuality was actually named by a random person just to make their fics 'cooler'.
