I can't lie, I would love for more of my fics to get more attention and yes, it can be a lot easier to get motivated when you feel like what you're writing will appeal to a lot of people. But still I have always found it rewarding to write whatever characters/pairings inspire me the most no matter how unpopular they may be. And you never know when your interpretation could get a very grateful following, even if it's a relatively small amount of people.
