I guess it doesn't quite fit the theme, but I soooo did NOT need to know how many seemingly normal 20-somethings actually wholeheartedly believe in the Illuminati. Why is this a thing? I mean, it's always been a thing, but I feel like it's become more socially acceptable.

Where did you find this out?

There's like, an entire anthill of these people on Tumblr. But I've noticed a handful of them pretty much... Well, everywhere.

And it's annoying, because you're just scrolling through a blog of neat pictures and stuff, but as soon as you think "maybe I'll follow this person," this shit pops up, and now you're thinking "this person is a nutter and I'm going to avoid them."

I dunno about the ages, but ever since my mom bought wholesale into the idea, I've started noticing it more and more everywhere. It seems to me it used to be a lot more fringe than it is now, but I think the proliferation is thanks to how much more room the internet takes up in average people's lives, so they can indulge their ideas without becoming dysfunctional about it because the information and validation is only a few clicks away now.
starphotographs: This field is just more space for me to ramble and will never be used correctly. I am okay with this! (Ginko (default))

Yeah, I know it's not restricted to a particular age group, but I feel like younger conspiracy nutters are getting more common? I dunno, it's weird because people who seem average and level-headed just come out with this shit, and you're all like "...Wha?"

Is it okay to wholeheartedly believe there was a really overambitious Freemasons-clone-attempt club with a cool name that existed from 1776-1785 and then ended up being a convenient scapegoat for shit in France, probably because of the cool name?

Because really that's all there was historically. Behold the power of a COOL NAME.
starphotographs: ...I'm not that bad, though. And I don't even light things on fire! Well, not regularly... (Izaya (devious))

Oh, it's okay to believe in that Illuminati. Just not the fake modern one that CONTROLS THE WEATHER and BRAINWASHES YOU and COMMISSIONED THAT UGLY HORSE SCULPTURE IN DENVER.
