I agree.
Maybe I'm bitter but since I lost the rose-tinted glasses everything looks like shit. Sometimes I even need to take vacations from my fandoms because what happens online stresses me out more than my "real life". Especially fandom friends. I've never had that much drama with my "real life" friends.

to be fair i know i interact with my "real life" friends a LOT less than my fandom friends.

i see fandom people online every day sometimes for 12+ hours a day.

real life friends. ehhh maybe between college classes or for a class but i have to go out of my way to visit them. (drove to VA to visit a friend labor day weekend, for example.)

ayrt

Sorry for the late reply.
Maybe I should have said that there was a time when I saw my friends each day because we were going to a private school together. I wasn't a kid anymore, I was already 19-20. So basically I was hanging out with the same people each day + sometimes going out with them after school or seeing them on weekends. We went vacationing together, we told each other about our private lives and we had our fair share of drama - all that shit you do when you have close friends.

But this "drama" could never compare to online friends.
Getting in a little fight with a friend is peanuts compared to getting stalked IRL for mentioning you don't support the current BNF. When I said something offline about disliking a popular person I was never attacked so viciously for it, I was never threatened and people didn't try to ruin my life over having an opinion on a starlet.

I believe the internet brings out the worst in people because they don't need to see your face or think about your life. You're just an online person to them without an identity - even if they claim they know you and are your friends.

But again, "maybe I'm bitter".
