also, 'gender', 'queer' and 'genderqueer' are three different words with three different definitions. the latter is not only extremely recent in the terms you're using, but has also never been binary. ever.

You don't get to pick nits about the etymology of one, and not unpack the etymology of everything else as well. (Including trans- and cis-, which are just as binary as hetero- and homo-.)

Never mind that the etymology of "bisexual" wasn't ever "both cis men and cis women" (except perhaps in the mouth of Dr. Bones McCoy in talking about Tribbles.) It was "both heterosexual and homosexual."

i don't think you understand what's going on here. i'm not arguing with you, i didn't mention etymology, and i'm not arguing etymology with you because i don't care. what i am doing is telling you that 'genderqueer' is not binary. at all. there is no room for argument or debate here. it's a word that was invented specifically for people who weren't in the binary. none of the... i don't even know what to call whatever-the-fuck you're doing now, but whatever it is, it's not going to change the fact that gq isn't a binary term.

If genderqueer is not binary. Then bisexual is not binary. Funny how the queer community works that way.

I'm really enjoying this thread because I think you are being impressively calm with a lot of people who are just not understanding what you're saying. Not even on a conceptual level; just on the level of parsing.

My hat, doffed.
