"demisexual" is slut-shaming bullshit. the entire "sexuality" is based on the notion that "I only want to have sex with people I like" is such an unusual mindset that it counts as asexuality (which makes up only 1% of the population).

"demisexuality" is the norm and anyone who thinks otherwise gets all their ideas about sexuality from pop culture.

i agree, i mean unless they're gay or bi as well (which i've never seen anyone gay or bi claiming to be demi) society is not set against them

That's what confuses me too. I feel like the cultural ideal (for women, at least) is demisexuality. I don't want to judge people's sexual identities, but it seems a bit weird to lump something that's so widely promoted in the dominant culture in with LGBTQ.

I get jumped on every time I say this, though.

To me it's just like a woman at my work who got a deep tan, was mistaken for an Arab and therefore understands racism. You can define yourself however you want, but don't pretend there's an analogous level of prejudice when there isn't.

That's a dead-on analogy.

The way I see it, if your romantic partner is a person of the opposite sex nobody is going to 'oppress' you unless you're doing a hell of a lot of inappropriate TMI broadcasting about what is or isn't happenning in your bedroom.

Not 100% but in nearly all cases, yeah.

I suspect that the majority of demisexuals are people who invested too much in the asexual identity too young and are now too embarrassed to admit they're gay, bi or - horror of mundane, non-oppressed, and unfashionable-on-Tumblr horrors - straight.

Can I use 'horror of mundane, non-oppressed, and unfashionable-on-Tumblr horrors' one day please, that is such an awesome line. :D
