I just now finished watching Legend of Korra

[personal profile] souljelly 2013-09-10 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I honestly think this would have given me nightmares if I'd watched it as a child. It's playing on my mind even now. The whole bloodbending thing just... -shudders-

Awesome stuff though.

Discussion topic~ Scariest/most disturbing kids' show you've ever seen? What's a piece of nightmare fuel that's really stuck with you?

Yeah, that freaked me out too, and I was a bit old for it at the time.

I refused to watch it as a kid.

Entei from the 3rd Pokémon movie and the Unown. Something about that stuck with me and gave me nightmares for a while. It doesn't help that this* thing plays on the in-game radio when you're around Unown.

That Pokemon movie is one of my favourites! Creepy though, I agree.

Uh Pokemon is so full of disturbing stuff. I was too scared to even play through the Ruins of Alph side story when I was little. >_>

New season of Korra airs this Friday /o

Sid's toys from Toy Story. Those things made me feel so uncomfortable as a kid. Oh, and that scene from Batman where the penguin bites that guy in the nose and blood spurts out/the scene where he says he needs water and his penguins drag him into the sewer water.

I'm so excited! Glad I managed to catch up on time, now I can watch the series unfold with everyone else instead of being a year behind.

I was super attached to my toys so the whole idea of Sid's dodgy experiments made me really upset for the toys haha. Haven't seen that Batman scene, is it from a live-action movie or an animated canon?

God damn E.T.

I forgot about it until a couple weeks ago when I was at the comic shop and looked up to see a life-size model of him.

Really not something you wanna be showing to preschoolers when their parents aren't there.

What freaked me out most as a kid were a scene each from Jurassic Park and The Rescuers (the original one, not the one set in Australia). In Jurassic Park, it was the scene in the kitchen where Lex and Timmy were trying to escape the raptors. In The Rescuers, it was the scene where Medusa lowers Penny into a tidal cave that is rapidly filling with water to retrieve a gem that (and here's the climax of terror for little!me) was inside a skull.

The boat scene in the original Charlie and the Chocolate factory movie scared the crap out of me when I was a kid and I still don't like it much now. Oh and the ghost puppets in a Muppets Christmas carol used to scare me(they still kind of make me a bit uneasy).

I wish I could think of a children's thing that disturbed me, but I was a pretty warped little kid who grew up to be a pretty warped adult.

I do remember watching the original Don't Be Afraid of the Dark as a young child, as well as the b/w giant bug movie, Tarantula!, both of which terrified me. Oh, the things I watched as a child on Saturdays before anyone was awake in the house...or on days when I stayed home sick from school. I'm sure that fever made the first movie much, much worse than it actually was.

All Dogs Go to Heaven, particularly Charlie getting killed in the first place and the bit with Charlie's hell nightmare. Seriously, how did that movie get a G rating?

Sarah Jane Adventures! At least it's in the Doctor Who tradition, so everyone's prepared for the kids to have to spend some time watching behind the couch, but there are some things that would have KILLED me as a kid. (the fucking clown doll, and that recurring villain in the cloak, and a fair few of the aliens, and it's pretty unflinching about people dying)

Dude, I'm 27 and I still had nightmares about Amon. He's one creepy little fucker.

The blueberry scene from the original Willy Wonka freaked me out as a kid, as did Gollum in the Rankin-Bass' Hobbit. The movie that scared me the most, though, was the animated Sleepy Hollow. My third-grade teacher made fun of me for weeks after we saw it in class 'cause I kept shivering and covering my eyes.

Not a show, but Slappy from Goosebumps (the one from the show wasn't scary in the least).

Oh and when Sokka and Toph are about to fall from the airship, all I can think about is how scared Toph must have been, just dangling there and Sokka's hand being the only thing keeping her from falling.

The fucking Bunyip scene from Dot and the Kangaroo holy mother of FUCK that's creepy when you're four D8

Also, um, I didn't realise until my twenties that Ava Maria featured after Night on Bald Mountain in Fantasia, because I think I got halfway through it as a toddler and NEVER watched that far again.
