Well I don't know if anything I can tell you would help with the cultural aspect, but I can tell you that it's unlikely you need to be terrified. Going to the doctor can be frustrating if there are long waits, and sometimes rather uncomfortable depending on what tests or exams they have to do, but in most cases the apprehension turns out to be worse than the actual experience.

If you've never been, I'd be happy to describe some of what you can expect, and I imagine others here would too.
