(Anonymous) 2013-09-11 10:16 pm (UTC)(link)It's true that you can have a sense of accomplishment and victory - and I think that does exist for a lot of alcoholics, and it's something that is contained within a lot of 12 step programs and the like. But the sense of accomplishment comes from just staying clean - from not drinking. That's difficult enough to get a sense of accomplishment. The drinking, that's something you can change, and that's something you can have a sense of accomplishment about. And you should, because it's absolutely an accomplishment. But the thing that makes you an alcoholic, that's not something you can change, it's not something you can win.
Just some thoughts, I guess (For reference, I'm not an alcoholic either, but I'm certainly what you might call at risk, and I do know a lot of alcoholics)
