I thought of making this a secret, but meh. I don't want to.

I haven't really considered myself part of a fandom in quite a while. I mean I've liked things but they either didn't have a following or I just didn't like it /that/ much.

So now I find myself in... I think a budding fandom and it seems like I'm a bit of a standout because I shit fanart. People keep asking me how I feel about characters and ships and if I don't say I love them they get mad or start mocking my ships. If I have theories or AU ideas, they argue with my ideas like if they change my mind it will be canon.

I'm guessing that's a pretty common thing for people regularly in fandoms. Is there a generally agreed upon reason as to why people get upset at someone like this?

Just stay chill and talk to other chill people and if people get het up just be like "lol"

to answer your actual question, there is a reason, and it's because the internet is ridiculous and filled with ridiculous people

and then you can block them and they will rant and cry in their journals and receive consolations from their followers who will all agree you were oh so mean, but no one you would want to engage with anyway will be turned away by your response as long as you are diplomatic and then don't sink back to your level

and if anyone comes give you grief you block them too

just establish that you won't suffer idiots but will remain polite about it and things should eventually get better once they get bored and move on to people who engage them, positively or negatively

In my experience this is an age thing. >20 - shipping wars/wank ahoy. <20 - relaxed about what others ship. It has some notable exceptions of course.

I was about to seriously disagree before you said your arrows were reversed. XD Agreed, mostly--some of the worst wank I've ever seen came from a 50 year old mother of three, but she is far from the most usual wank source.

Perhaps stop answering asks, or if their response is rude go "you asked me a question and I answered with my ships/headcanons. Try not to be rude because I like/think something different from you" - or a variation of.

It's pretty common. I get the wierdest messages like essays on how the ID so much with the person in the fanart I did.

People who get upset are upset because they're idiots who don't realise that people like different things from them.

Pretty much what has happened so far. Other than the one person that keeps sending me asks telling me my ship is dead. I just don't post those at all.

I was just wondering if anyone ever thought maybe their behavior is because they're upset someone doesn't make art for their ship and want to try to pressure them into it with their flawless logic.

That...hasn't occurred to me, but yeah it could be that they want to pressure your topics as well.

As for the dead ship person, block them! The little X button is your friend :D it works on anon IP's as well, especially if you report them for harassment when you do it
