I don't write fic (I've tried, even gen is hard for me), but I read it and I have a hard time even admitting that 99% of the time. It is and probably will always be a weird thing to anyone outside fandom. When fans ask actors about fanfic, slash and pairings I always want to facepalm.

I do think his 'those who have nothing better to do' comment came off as rude, but otherwise.. he doesn't have to like the stuff. Seriously, the butthurt on ONTD is overwhelming which I find hilarious in this context of celebrity-worshipping culture.

I can't help but think the ONTDers are just butt-hurt because Quinto is talking about them. Which is pretty hilarious considering how many of them think they're so much more ~mature~ than other fans in other fandoms.

Honestly, I don't see what was so wrong with ZQ's comment. Was it a bit rude? Sure. But you're right - he doesn't have to like the stuff. And it's pretty entitled for fans to constantly ask him if he reads slash, as if they're expecting him to finally cave and say, "YES! I love slash fanfiction! [insert author here] is a favorite of mine".

I'd feel ridiculously uncomfortable if I was always being asked what I think of random strangers writing stories about me fucking my co-workers. I know it comes with the job, but there should be some separation between fandom/fanfiction and the actors.
