I'm fifty damn years old. "Old," not "dead." And he's hot. Sorry if you whippersnappers can't see it--more for me. :p

(Anonymous) 2013-09-12 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
You're fifty and still in fandom?
Nothing against you, but I sincerely hope once I have reached that age I will be wise enough to not engage in fandoms anymore.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-12 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
DA. Pfft. Better start working on that wisdom part.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-12 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Seriously. I'm well over 50 and still in fandom. It's fun! I can't foresee a time that I won't want to have fun so I don't foresee a time that I won't want to be in fandom. *s*

da

By the time you're fifty, hopefully you'll be wise enough to know that you're actually allowed to do the things you like (including fandom) and fuck what anyone else thinks.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-13 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
This. I'm in my mid-thirties and still in fandom (although not as extensively as when I was younger) but fuck what other people think and do what makes you happy.

Hahahaha! Good one.
Who said being in fandom was forbidden?

(Anonymous) 2013-09-12 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
DA

If you don't think it's 'wise' to engage in fandoms, why are you even here now?

And I hope I still find fandom fun when I'm 50!

I am fifty and know what I like. What's wrong with engaging in fandoms I enjoy, even at my "advanced" age? Would it make you more comfortable if I took up knitting and shut my mouth?

I'm betting that Downey is closer to my age than yours.

Re: AYRT

(Anonymous) 2013-09-13 12:16 am (UTC)(link)
I'd be willing to back that bet, because one of my friends acted with him in a movie back in the '80's.

I think you should take of knitting.

AND KNIT FANNISH THINGS!!

Hey, don't mock the knitting! T^T Thirty (in a month and a half) and I've been happily crocheting since I was like sixteen.

It's my go-to 'watching tv/movies busy work' thing.

What other harmless and not-physically-demanding hobbies have age limits, pray do tell? Is there an age after which people should be "wise enough" not to go to football games anymore?

I hope I AM still in fandom at that age...

[personal profile] nyxelestia 2013-09-13 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
Granted, I have bigger priorities and hopes for my life and what I want to be doing by the time I'm in my 50's. If I'm too busy with real life to be able to do fannish things, I will be a little disappointed but hopefully I will be too busy with those other things to miss it too much. But honestly? I just hope I am where I want to be at that point in my life and still have time for fandom. :)

My Grandma's in her 80s and still gets fannish about Doctor Who. Granted, she doesn't understand computers, so we mostly do fandom crafts together, but fuck you for thinking that when you get old you can't get into fandom stuff anymore.

If you think it's not wise to engage in fandom, you can leave right now? Fun is fun whether you're 18 or 80.

Oh, them's fightin' words. 57 years old here. Watched the original run of "Star Trek" from 1966 to 1969. I used to publish fanzines in the mimeo age. Today I post my fic on AO3. I'm planning a trip to London this winter to see Tom Hiddleston in "Coriolanus" even though I'm old enough to be Hiddles' mommy. And RDJ is hot hot hot.

The day I stop fanning will be the day I die.

Seriously?

[personal profile] melissatreglia 2013-09-13 08:07 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm 30 and my mum's 65. She doesn't do online fandom, but she was all a-squee with me over The Avengers and The Hunger Games, and is looking forward to the next season of Supernatural on DVD. She also beta's my fanfic. And she's very excited about THG's Catching Fire coming out, even more than me.

Getting older doesn't mean you can't like things fannishly. Hell, you'll have more time to enjoy them and be old enough not to give a fuck what anyone else thinks. You'll understand that when you're older, kiddo.

/get off my damn lawn

*fistbump of solidarity* I just attended Salt Lake ComicCon. Stan Lee was there. I don't see anyone telling him he's too old to be a fan.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-13 06:35 am (UTC)(link)
I'm over fifty and he does nothing for me.
