Re: Complaints thread

After seeing one too many posts of, "White people do this" and "White people do that" bashing that has gone from being valid to being ridiculous to being out and out insane*, I am tempted to create a tumblr called "Blame Whitey" where I would make equally insane "white people do this" claims. Like, "White people made me stub my toe on the coffee table," "White people made the dinosaurs extinct," "White people know where Waldo is but they aren't telling."

*I came across a post where the poster claimed that it was cultural appropriation for white people to speak better Spanish than she did. Because Spanish was *her* cultural tongue. The fuck? Spanish is a native language of Europe. You know, the homeland of white people.

Lately, the whole "cultural appropriation" out cry is ironically creeping into stealing from European culture territory.

Like there was another post how white people dressing up Lolita style is cultural appropriation because it was a Japanese cultural thing. Which is ironic given the roots of the Lolita look. Namely Victorian and Rococo. European styles.

Yeeeah...I'd say go ahead and do it if you want to. Just turn off anon, and use a dummy e-mail account if you want to avoid most of the hate [and, yeah, maybe mention this is a tumblr satirizing the more ridiculous claims out there and the stuff that people do that is legitly wrong/horrible.]

White people are just a default excuse for tumblr SJWs to blame all the world's problems on. I'm pretty sick of tumblr myself. "Oh. my. god. You didn't call me floobliwhoo which is my chosen gender neutral term to which you must remember and address me as! OH MY GOD, I'm a demisemibutterflypottersexual, how dare you oppress me with your normal sexual mundane ways~! "

Lol I remember once clicking on "ontd_feminism" (I know, there's my problem, but this was years ago and I didn't know about SJWs) and I clicked out immediately when a Mexican woman hated and felt it was appropriation when white people played Latin instruments, or celebrated the Day of the Dead.

even though I doubt this woman was actually from Mexico, or she'd know there's a lot of white Mexicans, too, lol

not that I don't think cultural appropriation isn't a thing. But a lot of the common complaints seem more obnoxious than actual "appropriation" (like getting a tattoo of a Chinese character - it's stupid and you look like an idiot, unless you can actually claim to speak the language maybe, but appropriation? it's seriously just writing in China, not something sacred)

I kind of had a similar moment reading a post about dancing and how 'no white person ever swung their hips all sexy like this before they stole it from black people'.

That just seemed so over the top and *weird*.

...Wow. That person must not know like...*anything* about the Romans. Or Spartans, since they were actually really into dance too, oddly enough.

Will you link us when/if you do make your Tumblr? Please?

I totally understand where people are coming from when they say don't wear war bonnets/Day of the Dead makeup/bindis/etc. which are legitimate items of religious/cultural significance if you aren't part of the culture/religion that they come from, but the argument I heard against 'well why isn't people wearing blue jeans cultural appropriation?' was that borrowing from the fashions or otherwise not-symbolically-imbued aspects of a culture was a different thing.

And then I stumbled across someone saying that white girls dying their hair black and wearing winged eyeliner was 'stolen' from Latina fashions and I gave up trying to make sense of any of it. I'm sticking to the 'no significant religious/cultural items' bit, and let the rest sort itself out.
