I think I would have liked Kirk/Uhura better than Spock/Uhura. But then, part of that is that I just really don't care for Quinto's Spock that much. :(

I think reboot S/U is nice; weirdly, I liked it a lot more in ID than ST XI. I still prefer Kirk/Uhura - they have better chemistry, IMO - but I think it would translate very poorly on screen, if they'd become an actual couple.

I hear you about ZQ's Spock. I think he did a decent job in the first movie, but in the second he was either forgettable or just plain bad. The writing was also to blame, but I think he fizzled out in the last 30 minute.

I like Kirk/Uhura as siblings and friends but a romantic relationship between them would have no appeal for me and I suspect they have no appeal for the writers either. Spock is the alien and he's not the typical hero getting the girl, it's way more a challenge to write him in a romantic relationship than write one for the least character you expect to NOT have a relationship there..
Kirk/Carol is pretty much a given right now.
