(Anonymous) 2013-09-13 12:45 am (UTC)(link)Did he actually feel sorry about letting her die, or did it just bother him that he caused Jesse pain? Same argument there - Jesse is useful to him. Also, at that point in the series I wouldn't say he was quite as far down the spiral as he is now.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-13 12:52 am (UTC)(link)I agree with this... and she was a special case, really. She wasn't actually a threat to him or his family, was not involved in the business aside from her link to Jesse and encouraging Jesse to get out of Walt's control. She's not like the other people that have died on the show in that she's relatively innocent, she's not involved in the conflict he normally faces. He didn't intend to kill her, either, he just happened to witness her death - which he could have prevented. I think the choice of not saving her was a very different one than the other deaths on the show, it seemed more unforgivable because she wasn't his enemy, she was just inconvenient to him. And it wasn't a situation where he killed her. He was given the opportunity to show mercy, something that could potentially have gone a long way to redeeming him, and decided against it. I think he was very aware of what it meant that he let this girl die just because he wanted her out of his way, and that caused him grief. Just not enough grief to actually stop her from suffocating.
