It was bad but I don't think they were more than friends before and after the fact so it didn't ultimately affect their relationship.
I'm surprised there aren't more Kirk/Uhura and Uhura/Chekov shippers (or even Uhura/Sulu) since she had way more subtext with them than with Scotty. I guess it's because shipping her with Scotty doesn't clash with other shippers? (K/S, Sulu/Chekov..) and while Scotty fell for some girls in the series and might have relationships, like the one with Mira Romaine, that should be considered more canon than Scotty/Uhura, no one cares about them because they're secondary characters.
