before we get into fat vs skinny

(Anonymous) 2013-09-13 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
why is it always always fat vs skinny? I don't think OP at 5'4" and 150 is fat but they are overweight and the fact that there are plenty of people who are just "overweight" and still do not get "skinny privilege" gets ignored. plenty of women are mocked and belittled for being overweight that arent "fat"

in before people insisting op is skinny because thats the only category that isnt fat

Hmm, if you look at the BMI, 5'4 & 148 is considered 'healthy weight'; 149 is overweight, so saying that 150 is overweight is kind of a technicality.

But I'm not sure whether OP is proud of her 'healthy' body or still thinks she should be skinnier.

Whether or not she'd be considered to have love handles or a big butt or w/e really isn't something that you could guess from just knowing height and a number on a scale.

if you look at the BMI

Then you are already starting with bad information.

I don't think that's right -- I'm 5'4" and seeing a dietitian, and according to her and the BMI, I need to be under 145 to be a healthy weight. Not that 3 pounds makes much of a difference to one's health (although it does make a difference to my clothes, for some stupid reason...5 pounds is the difference between my pants fitting and my pants being uncomfortably tight)
