There's been more than once when I've been on Tumblr and people have been like "So, I'm moving and need help paying rent blah blah blah" and all I can think is "You know this is something that happens every month, right? Are you going to ask for money every month? Maybe you should... not move until you have a job or something."

ikr

like, a one-time emergency is understandable, but some people do this several times a year for years

it's always a new excuse

"I'm moving" "My dog is sick" "I need to go to the dentist" "I'm moving again" "My computer broke" "I need a new tablet" "My second dog is sick" "The five kittens I rescued need their shots" etc.

I gave money a couple of times to an online friend in danger of eviction. Who was sincerely searching for a job, but who refused to even consider any savings measures like having a housemate, really could not afford base rent on her place even when working, and who, if she had money between rent-due times, spent it on stuff she did not need anything like as badly as she needed food and rent. I ended up deciding not to respond anymore, because I do think her problems were partly created by her choices, and I couldn't see enabling the choices anymore.
