Bleh, I hate these people. I'm always wary even of the ones who treat it as a one-off thing - do they really have a dog whose vet bills are really $800? How did I know you didn't blow your money on fandom crap and are just looking for the internet to cover your ass when suddenly rent/bills are due? So someone is vouching for you but are they in on it or?

My other paranoia is donating to one such person and inadvertently enabling them. Maybe it's meant to be a one-off, but they come back to rely on the internet again and again for their income realizing that this can actually be done.

Or maybe I'm just not trustful of people. I'm unlikely to donate unless it's a good friend, but I've bought a commission. I don't have much money myself, so...

Whew, it's not just me that has this concern? I always want to say, look, I trust you but I don't know who your LJ friend that needs bills is. Same with the petitions - a friend tried to get people on her flist to sign one for a friend because of a horrible injustice that had happened to her, except it reeked of Two Sides to Every Story. I didn't want to question my friend's friend's integrity, but...
