Radicals, ugh

(Anonymous) 2013-09-14 08:34 pm (UTC)(link)
SJWs and radical feminists make me want to hate things I used to love. Pro-choice nuts make me want to become pro-life. People always screaming about feminism make me hate feminism (tbh I am egalitarian). All this over the top critique of male characters vs female characters in TV Shows/Comics/Movies make me hope they never make a superhero movie starring a woman. Just because those people are so. fucking. annoying.

Also the people that say, 'White people can't experience racism" or "Men can't experience sexism". Go fuck yourself and then get into the real world you idiots. Because that can happen on both accounts.

I can sympathize with the frustration, but at the same time I feel like if that's all it takes to make you reverse your position on an issue you can't have really felt too strongly about it to begin with.

AYRT

I didn't say I did. I just want to to spite them.

Fair enough.

if your desire to spite people you dislike is more strong than your convictions towards any given issue then you aren't very loyal to your opinion and are driven more by pettiness than passion. unfortunate.

da. I'd say that it comes down to a question of what one ultimately does as oppose to how one feels about it. If a person *feels* like reacting against the more irksome SJW Tumblrinas by going in the opposite direction (because it's pretty much a physiological inevitability that feelings towards people will often generalise towards things associated with them), but ultimately votes/acts in a way that's consistent with egalitarian principles (because it's the morally right thing to do), then what you're getting is a triumph of reason over (poorly directed) emotion.

Alas, I get the sense that amongst the Tumblr social justice crowd and the fandom feminists having the right feelings (or should that be 'feels') is more important than doing the right thing.

Agreed.

Never understood people who say this; it's like the other anon said, you never felt strongly to begin with, so you're easily swayed. Dealing with the absolute worst examples of so-called activists could never make me budge, because my opinions exist separately from how assholes choose to behave. I only shift my views based on sound evidence that the views themselves are flawed; and I already know acting like a jackass about those views is flawed, so I don't need further evidence for that.

Christ, this. People like the OP seem to be in these movements more for the fad than for any real beliefs about them. If you cared in the first place, a few assholes wouldn't stop you from believing it.

Hell yes. Anything involving algebra with square or cube roots just makes my head hurt. It's my biggest weakness.
