Het isn't even unpopular, though. Eren/Mikasa and Levi/Hanji have pretty big followings, for example. If you're talking about Reiner/Krista, well, she has something going on with Ymir, so that's a bit more difficult.

Kinda off-topic, but can anyone explain how Ymir/Bert came about in the Japanese fandom? I see a lot of it on Pixiv and it's quite baffling tbh. Is it some kind of symmetrical pairing thing with Reiner/Krista?

Yes. And there was a lot of people shipping them as a joke when Bert 'rescued' Ymir and carried her in his arms (it looked like a prince rescuing his princess, even if it was actually Bert kidnapping Ymir, easy joke) and then that scene when she was threatening him was pretty hot. So it's a mix of the symetrical paring and those two scenes.
