I hate when people
(Anonymous) 2013-09-14 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)I was in a conversation with this really radical woman who was calling men "animals" and I disagreed and she said "I doubt you're really a woman" and then made a comment that if men did to me what they"did to most women" I would "learn" not to defend them. Pretty much "if you got raped you'd learn not to like men".
When I called her on that she backtracked and then said some bullshit about how she would defend any woman from rape but it would be a "silver lining" if I got assaulted that I would "learn a lesson".

That's why I feel a little bit safer in discussions in a controlled atmosphere, either in a classroom type area. I mean I know some people get mad and assume you don't "care" when you want to avoid Social Justice issues. But sometimes it's more because I've experienced people being downright hateful and awful in those discussions.
and it's not just to people who said something wrong either. The assumption that people only get attacked because they did something wrong ignores a lot of things, like the cruelty of some people online. It's why I get so mad when I see people brushing off criticisms of Tumblr and social justice discussions. . It's not because I hate justice but because I see things happening that shouldn't be ignored. I wish the "angry crusader" types would be less encouraged.

I believe in feminism as "equality between the sexes" and if there's one thing in the world that pisses me off it's double standards.
