Alphabetizing is also a basic skill that people should know how to do, but sewing? You thread a needle and poke holes in things. It doesn't require 20/20 vision (I would know, since I definitely don't have that), all it really requires is a hand. Not even two hands--one will work.

But, you know, it's fine if you don't want to learn how to sew. I get that it's not as important as it would have been before mass-produced clothes. It still seems weird when people can't do it though.

da-uh, you can thread a needle with one hand? Damn.

Yep. Stab a needle into a pincushion, thread the needle. It isn't hard.

I mean, it's probably not universal, but I have only one full functioning hand in terms of fine motor skills and I sew all the time. It helps my good hand remain more fit and yeah, you can thread a needle with one hand - if you can't manage the line-up for the pincusion trick, most sewing kits come with a needle threading tool that works one-handed.

DA

Because it's not so simple for everyone. For some people it's a struggle. I get the theory behind it, but in practice it's a disaster. It's more weird to me that you don't seem to get that different people have different skills sets.
