I don't need warnings for them, but I'd like to know before reading if the story is mainly centered around an OC/it's an OC/canon character romance. Because I'm not interested in those. Is tagging the same thing as "warning" now?

exactly. if the story centers around an oc, then I want to know upfront, so I'd be irked if it wasn't in the tags or summary. but that's not a trigger warning so idk man

I was gonna say this. I don't care if there are OCs, I just want to know if it's OC-centric or the main pairing is with an OC - mostly so I can happily skip over it. (The only time I opt to read OC-centric stuff is when it's with the OC/cast of OCs exploring the canon material's universe. But otherwise, meh.) I don't see how tagging it as these things is any different than tagging it with a non-OC pairing or as gen or whatever.

Hell, I just checked AO3 and all OC-related tags are simply that - tags. No "warning: OC" tags or anything.

I don't think so, but I guess that depends on your perspective. Either way I agree about OC centered stories and OC/canon romances; it's nice to know about them beforehand.

This. And hey, tagging a story actually helps both the people searching for something specific and the people wanting to avoid it. It's a win/win for everyone.
