Re: As someone who religiously warns for OCs

I had someone do that in a convo here. was talking about a fic of mine in a conversation about OC fics which was in an original setting and heavily based on character development for the main canons but had OCs as part of the setting. They picked a fight with me and kept saying stuff about how the fic was OBVIOUSLY shit. I apologized for talking about it believing I had mad some social mistake or came off egotistical.

They were like "well delete your stupid fic to prove it". At that point I was just like "No. I apologized for bothering you, not for writing a fic I enjoyed.

They called me butthurt and then left.

That's pretty shitty of them. Sorry that people suck. :(

I saw a similar convo on Tumblr once, there's this big fanfic in my fandom that's popular yet hated at the same time. Personally I think it's OOC and it sucks after reading all 50 chapters, and someone went on a mini-rant about it. I agreed with them (they went back and forth with the author for a while), up until the point where they said the author should delete it. The author had already apologized for OOCness and stuff like abuse, but she refused to delete it. Which, as much as I disliked it, I'd never ask someone to do.

Personally , having met people who have been abused I would say put a trigger warn for abuse. But still if they apologized that tells me they probably would have done something like that if asked.

There's no need to demand someone take down their story. I also hate the concern trolling "take down your story or you'll get flamed"

Sorry...no. I'll ignore a flame because , flaming is a stupid immature way of behaving. If I didn't write something every time I thought people would hate it I wouldn't be going into writing.

Oh no, I mean I totally agree that the author should have put in warnings for abuse to begin with. She had apologized for the abuse and put in the warning after this conversation was had, she just didnt delete the fic. She responded as nicely and as best as she could have to all the flamers though. I felt bad for her. :(

ah

I really hate flamers personally. Especially when they flame newbies. I personally believe that by flaming newbies, you're making it more likely that they'll be over defensive in the future, because it conditions them to have a negative experience with criticism. They start to believe criticism goes hand in hand with bashing.

(It's simple psychology really)

So when they complain about people being over-defensive I just get so mad and want to say "well quit flaming new writers then"

I value kind reviewers because online in this climate they seem very rare. I always try to be polite to them even when disagreeing because I want them to know I appreciate it. I know how being yelled at enough can make a polite review turn caustic. It's all a vicious circle really.
