Walt is someone who would rather produce an addictive and lethal drug that supports cartel networks that have to date been responsible for the deaths of tens, if not hundreds, of thousands of people - many of them innocent - as well as be involved in organized crime and commit murders (including, potentially, of children) himself than hurt his pride by taking cancer treatment money from old friends.

He doesn't get to decide he's not "in it" anymore and everything is wiped clean. That's not how the law - or justice - works.

However, I realize the writers are very skilled at their craft, humanize and develop all sides of their cast, and this sort of dilemma was exactly what they were going for :3
