Re: What's the story behind your username?

My name is Zach, so I went by Z-man on message boards for awhile. Then there was a forum RP where we chose the superpowers of various fictional characters and modified the names so we knew when we were talking about the characters from that. I chose the Archmage from Gargoyles, so I was Z-Mage.

When that message board moved to a place where my name was already taken, I decided to go with Z-Mage. And when I registered for AIM, hyphens weren't allowed, so it became TheZMage. It's distinctive and never used, so it became my new default username, barring a few brief forays into more fandom-specific names. I'm glad they never caught on because I am not really as interested in those fandoms anymore.

When people in real life ask, I just say "it's a long story, but not an interesting one."

Sometimes simplicity is the way to go! I avoid fandom-related usernames these days myself, for the same reason - I'd rather have something I won't 'grow out' of along with the fandom.
