When I see someone who only ships het, I don't think they're homophobic or in any way prejudiced. I just think it's a pity that they're missing out on so much fun ;D

"Fun" is a matter of opinion, anon.

Slash doesn't interest me, and I don't find it a turn-on either, so why would I be "missing out" on something I'm not even into? It's kinda like dragging a fan of action movies to a sappy chick-flick, insisting that they're "missing out" on its amazing romance plot. But when they get there, the action movie fan is really just bored to tears by the plot.

People like different things. They shouldn't be shamed--or pitied--for what they do/don't like.

What's 'fun' to read for me, isn't always what's going to be 'fun' for you to read. Or watch, or play, or listen to for that matter. Sure, people should try different things sometimes, but if they have tried and it's not for them, don't push. Makes it less fun.

(that wasn't directed at anyone in particular here, just general rambling on my part.)

Why so defensive? They obviously put a winking smiley behind their text. I read it tounge-in-cheek.

I think it's because of all the non tongue-in-cheek comments on this whole thread. The reply wasn't necessarily meant for that poster, but for everyone else.

Posting on a forum like this is rarely just for the benefit of the OP.

non canon couples ( both slash and het) don't interest me and never did. I do ship some same sex relationships but they're always canon.
The idea of changing a character's sexual orientation to fulfill my fantasy... I get it but it's not my cuppa?
I don't really need a romance, I happen to have an equal number of brotps as well as less platonic ships and the idea that two guys cannot be just friends isn't my thing.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-19 01:50 am (UTC)(link)
It's like the opposite for me. Canon ships (m/f, f/f, m/m) rarely interest me but non-canon ships (all types) often interest me. That being said, the canon ships I sail are all het, whereas the non-canon ones tend to be slash and femslash (which makes sense because m/m and f/f ships are less likely to become canon).

When I see someone who insists that girl parts are "icky," or that there's "no good het," I don't think they have internalized misogyny or are in any way prejudiced. I just think it's a pity that they're missing out on so much fun. :D

Not trying to be a dick but I just don't see what's to miss. The media is 99% het it's like telling someone they're missing out on pop music when they hear pop music all day er day.

No, you're just missing the point of my comment in context with the original comment. That's okay.

Because it's not like hetero romance is shoved in our face or anything

I wish I could miss out in all the fun

Holy passive aggression...

Holy late to the game... Yes, you're exactly correct. I give a damn so much that I have all this built-up "passive aggression" toward something I don't even participate in, anymore. I am so very, very mentally unwell. Thank you for pegging my emotional illness over the internet to a tee.
