I don't get people shipping only pairings they find sexually attractive. Not saying it's "doing it wrong" or anything, but it's so different from my own experience that it just does not compute for me. Sure, I ship some pairings because they're attractive, but the majority, I ship because I think they would have an interesting dynamic and interesting experiences as a couple. But whatever, ship whatever you want.

My thoughts exactly.

I don't even read porn fics. If it has a plot and it has smut within it but it's not the main point, it's just a bonus. I like the relationship building and their interactions with each other and 'how' they fall in love.

Maybe because I'm (a biromantic) bisexual with a low sex drive, I just can't wrap my brain around the idea of only shipping characters you think are attractive having sex with each other. And I don't think men and women are from different planets IRL, so the "unable to relate" argument (you can't relate to ~50% of the human race??) doesn't compute for me either.

But then, I'm a biromantic asexual, so probably that's not surprising. My shipping tendencies are about 65% 'these people have an awesome dynamic' and about 35% 'gods, let these people have something happy and non-fucked-up for a change'. It should probably be more 50-50, but I've a tendency to enemy-ship a lot. I think a breakdown of my ships is about 2/3 slash and 1/3 het for pairs and then a bunch of OT3 and group pairings with a couple of outlier femslash pairs.

Uh. I tend to ship all the things? I also multiship characters, so there's a lot of overlap.

Mostly I just skip the smutty parts unless there's a lead up hinting at character development in them. Which happens a surprising amount, but the sex itself still does nothing for me.

Yeah, same here. If it's about attractiveness of characters, I'll parse smut on occasion, but I don't ship unless I totally love a pair of characters together.
