Re: Anxiety suggestions?

For some people it has the exact opposite effect, but I've found exercise to be really effective at cutting off impending panic attacks. Possibly because it gives my body a REASON to be breathing heavily and beating faster and such, and something to do with the excess oxygen so I don't hyperventilate and get faint and blurry vision, and therefore once I stop exercising, my breathing and heart rate return to normal as they usually would after exercise.

I have heard, though, that some people with anxiety find that exercise, seeing as it mimics certain physical aspects of a panic attack, actually prompts them when they weren't already having one, so it's something to be careful with.

Hand weights are good for something you can do pretty much anywhere without having to get up or moving quickly and attracting attention. Though of course then you have to actually lug hand weights around. Still, if it helps, I've found it to be worth it. If you're somewhere you have room, sit-ups and leg lifts can be done without any equipment. These are my standbys, you might find other exercises to work better for you.

Also, you might want to cut out the coffee entirely. I used to be able to drink caffeinated pop, but when my anxiety got worse, it got to the point where even a few sips of Diet Coke was enough to leave me incapable of anything but flailing around trying not to pass out for hours. No caffeine for me anymore except the relatively small amounts in chocolate. :P
