For physics students to hate math is just sad, though. Math is the language of physics. It's like an english lit major hating on english itself. Bio and chem are very different sciences in the way that you learn. Bio involves lots and lots of memorization. Chem involves some memorization and some basic math calculations, and problem solving skills. Physics is basically applied math.

So I can see why Bio and Chem students would find math tedious. It's very different from the methods of learning they're used to. I'd be sad to hear of a physics student hating math, though. I know it happens, but more often than not I think it's intimidation rather than actual hatred.

Oh I'm well-aware. I love math - especially the form it takes in physics - but I was one of the only ones in my degree program of micro/biochem/orgchem/medical students. So, scientists definitely don't have to love math (though they generally do have to be somewhat competent at it, you're right about that, even if it isn't their strong suit). Physicists probably should, or they're going to have a miserable time.
