Oh I'm well-aware. I love math - especially the form it takes in physics - but I was one of the only ones in my degree program of micro/biochem/orgchem/medical students. So, scientists definitely don't have to love math (though they generally do have to be somewhat competent at it, you're right about that, even if it isn't their strong suit). Physicists probably should, or they're going to have a miserable time.
