Shipping isn't just about getting off to porn, tho. It's about personality dynamics. If you're just doing it to get off, hell fucking yeah I'm gonna judge you and think you're just using it to self-insert. At that point it's not shipping, it's sexual fantasy.

People read fic for different reasons, so I don't think there's anything wrong with reading for sexual fantasy. I don't really see it as shipping, really, but it's not like they're hurting anybody by reading porny fic about the characters they find hot together.
