When people find something funny that you don't.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-19 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
All my friends are giggling over some blog post about a bear head and I read the whole thing in mildly baffled confusion (because I didn't find it funny obviously). But what have you, that's how it goes.

What are things other people have found funny that you haven't? (or vice versus)

Humiliating humor. I can't do it.

Me either.

I don't see the humor in either people getting hit in the crotch, or babies spitting up. Home movie shows are a real disappointment to me.

I'm with you on the first one.

I HATE THAT KIND OF HUMOR. It just makes me so uncomfortable because I can't help imagining how awful it would have to be. I'm a woman but I had a brother growing up.

Then I found out that a dude could DIE from something like that (the shock could kill them if it was bad enough). Made me even more mad that it's used as comedy so often.

Man I was going to add this myself. Glad I'm not the only one.

Although I do find it a bit funny that it appears to have been filmed in the same basement as those pornographic Calvin Klein ads from over a decade ago.

Modern Family

Everyone I know loves that show and thinks it's so funny but it makes me cringe.

Charlie the Unicorn

I find it annoying and boring and just completely do not get what is so hilarious about it. Thankfully it doesn't pop up too much anymore.

OH MY GOD, we are brethren. I didn't see your post until I had already said it.

Dude... that was like, a decade ago.

I mostly found it funny because my [then best friend] and I really creeped people out because we harmonized on the lines *that* well.

Family Guy. And also the one with Kenny...?

There is this kid named Sterling that everyone thinks is so fucking hilarious, but really, he's just a rude asshole who is mean to me. Even the people who think he's funny have told me they don't know why he's mean to just me.

...maybe it's like a 1st grader 'I like you so I'll pull your hair and push you in the mud' thing?

The dialogue exchange, especially in fic:

"This or this?"
"Yes."

Like...shut the fuck up, that's only been funny maybe once, and every other time is just a clear leak in the tumblr culture landfill. IT'S GETTING INTO THE GROUNDWATER.

This is really stupid, but I hate it when a show (usually sitcoms and the like) will have all kinds of crappy things happen to someone on their birthday/wedding day/some other day that is ideally supposed to be happy and it's supposed to be funny. Like, I remember there was a commercial for some comedy (Happy Endings, I think?) where one character's fiancee leaves him at the altar and the next shot is him driving his car with the 'Just Married' sign hanging off the back and sobbing and the whole thing was presented as if it was supposed to be funny, and instead it made me feel awful. I mean, the poor guy! He thought he was going to have a happy wedding day and then it didn't happen and now he's sobbing, why is that supposed to be funny? I actually can't watch any comedy when there's a wedding episode because I just know something supposedly wacky is going to happen that's going to make the characters mortified or miserable, and I cant find that funny.

In that instance I don't think it was supposed to be funny so much as... intentionally awkward. At least until it had been two weeks.

But I actually often have the same problem.

There's this Tumblr trend of multiple screencaps with idiotic captions strung together in little nonsense scenes. It's not so bad when the captions are actually witty and tell a clever story, but a lot of them have no point whatsoever and are just dumb.

That Deadpool game. After weeks of hearing about how hilarious it was I convinced myself to get it because IT IS HILARIOUS I WILL LOVE THIS.

I spent half the game wishing deadpool would just shut the fuck up and the other half wondering if maybe I've gotten prudish in my old age. At least the gameplay was fun.

Violent humor, death humor, torture humor. I can handle some slapstick, but I feel sick by stuff like Southpark.
