Are you a sociopath? Because that's one of the early indicators. Your reaction probably didn't do you any favors, either.

Don't try to condescend to people who know what they're talking about.

Not having a song that "inspires" you is not an early indicator of sociopathy.

...or is important to you. You missed part of that.

No, it's a warning sign. Go to any psychologist for an initial consult and they will ask you about a song that's important to you. If you insist you don't have one, they will then ask another nine questions about the nine other things that are considered warning signs, including pets/animals. If you fall outside the norm on three or more of these, then they will start looking into the actual symptoms of psychopathy. If you have even one, they are required to initiate a 72 hour hospitalization for observation to start the diagnostic process.

Listen, twit. A lot of people may have songs that "are important to them", but not that "inspire" them. These are two different things.

And "song I love" is also different from "song that is important" and "song that inspires me".

There are a lot of songs that I love because listening to them is (for me) the auditory and emotional equivalent of tasting euphoria, but those songs are not "important" - in that if that song never existed, my life would not be all that different, and these songs certain don't "inspire" me, in the sense that they don't make me want to take up hang-gliding or become a CEO. MMMMKAY?

Read the post again. "I don't have a song that's important to me or inspires me."

You know, if somebody asked me for the name of a song that is important or inspires me, I couldn't think of a single one.

If they asked, "What are your five favorite feel-good, sing-a-long songs?", I could come up with that list in about three minutes. Also, Five Favorite Tear-jerkers, Five Favorite Novelty songs, etc.

'Cause some of us? Don't really look for inspiration in the works of people who, as a group, have demonstrated a tendency to be idiots (see the entire history of rock and roll for a start), no matter how much we enjoy music.

Perhaps the person who couldn't come up with an "important" song is just one of those people? Hmmm? Maybe?
