My favorite heroes are the ones who aren't badass, confident, hypercompetent superhumans. Who are basically normal people doing crazy shit because they feel they have to and are terrified and doubtful and do it anyway. In other words, the kind of person like you or me, not the suave James Bond thing. I think it's more interesting.

So, just because you're not Sherlock Holmes doesn't mean you couldn't do something awesome. Find other heroes.

Die Hard 4, John McClane to Matt Farrell: "That's what makes you that guy."

I have no idea what that means because I didn't see that movie but hopefully you're agreeing with me!

Wouldn't John McClane from the first three Die Hard movies be "that guy"?

It makes me sad that John McClane has been turned into this amazingly competent super-cop, when he used to be a regular guy who got stuck in a shitty situation with no shoes on.

To be fair, it's a logical progression for the character. After you've been in the situations that John McClane has been in (not once, not twice, but THREE times) you'd have to be a bit of an idiot to not work on improving your skills and emergency-preparedness.

Though personally I agree with you - I liked McClane from the first movies a lot better too.

"Find other heroes"? What a rubbish thing to say. I like the heroes I have, thanks.

Are you OP?

If OP is frightened and distressed by their heroes, hell yeah, they need to find other heroes.

Thanks for the support but sorry -- my favorite heroes are the James Bond-y ones. I fucking adore the shit out of them and never find them boring. I just have this annoying neurosis that tags along with this preference.

So glad that there are people who still think like this! I find those "new" heroes SOOO boring - oh, look, they are human, just like me. This COULD be me!
I want the old Bond guys back - badass and absolutely superhuman!
