Err, I don't care for smut of any variety, so what does that make me in your world? I do like the romance/emotional stuff, but couldn't care less about the smut/porn. ( Seriously, all explicit scenes could be fade-to-black and I'd get along just fine. Needless to say I don't read PWPs.)

I have recently come to terms with the fact that I feel pretty much the same. Oh, I like porn, but I am just as happy with an undetailed scene that is really good on describing the emotions, but is spare on the physical side.

Give me strong emotional description and I'll be happy to imagine the porn for myself.

da

When I was younger I used to jump to the sex scenes and read them first. If they were good I would read the rest of the story.
Nowadays I often skip the sex scenes. Especially when they're longer than half a page.

It started to feel 'off' to me to find highly descriptive sex in an otherwise engaging story. I wonder why my preferences changed like this. The only explanation I have is that I started to have sex IRL and therefore fictional sex wasn't that important to me anymore (?)

That sounds like a valid reason, though my own is different because I am not having sex. I think for myself, it's that I have become less tolerant of sex scenes that feel robotic due to concentrating more on what they're doing instead of how they are feeling.

If you forget the emotion, it starts feeling like Ikea Erotica.
