I don't read cis-het because it's never like what fucking is actually like for me. And rarely is it like what I *want* fucking to be like for me (I've yet to find the cache of really amazing 'here, take all my feels' subby het fic that I'm sure is hiding somewhere on the internet). On top of that, I already know what PIV sex feels like from a cis-female perspective. Therefore, it holds none of the 'sexytiems fantasy' allure that slash does for me.

I will never be a dude getting fucked by another dude. I'm a cis-female. Just what's in the cards for me. So my imagination can go into absolute overload when I read slash fic and imagine that what they're having is the most amazing-feeling mind-blowing sex ever. With cis-het, my brain has something like a mental cap on how pleasurable it can imagine that sex act to be because my frame of reference is my own sex life. Does that make sense? *mrr* I think I just confused myself...

I'm a straight woman. I very rarely read het smut, though I ship numerous het pairings. It just doesn't appeal to me all that much. Why? Here's the thing: I'm scared of het sex. Penis-in-vagina sex is incredibly painful for me. I get nothing out of receiving oral and it's not a lot of fun to give it. Manual stimulation is pretty iffy. I like guys and I like the idea of sex with guys but male/female sex has been, in my experience, pretty sucky.

So when I read smut, I tend to avoid it. It's too close to my own experience and since my experience with sex has been basically universally bad, it diminishes the pleasure I tend to receive from het smut. That only increases significantly when I'm reading a story from the POV of a woman, even if I love the woman in question. About the only way I really enjoy het smut is if it's where a male has been magically turned into a woman and then there's a whole "OMG WHAT IS THIS" style freakout going on to go with the sensations. M/M porn though is separate enough from my experiences that my brain somehow is able to filter it as a fantasy and just get on with enjoying it.

Point being, there are A LOT of reasons why someone might like M/M, M/F, or F/F. Those reasons are entirely up to them and fuck you if you think you've got any special insight into someone else based on their preference in smut. My preference for M/M isn't because I've got issues with my own body (at least in the sense of not liking my body - I like by breasts and my cunt and the rest of myself thanks much) or because I'm misogynistic. Sometimes preference in smut is just preference in smut and you should STFU with the judging.

OT, I hate the myth that all women hate porn but guys love it. I read tons of smut (most of the fic in my fandom gets explicit) and while I enjoy the emotional element to it, it doesn't turn me on. I AM a visual person and seeing sexy stuff does turn me on, so I love porn.

On topic, I read everything, slash, femslash, het, but mostly slash because I mostly read about my OTP.

Oh and M/F sex scenes in Fanfics often is odd for me, that probably goes back to The Earth Children series tbh (and/or that it really does not match up to my real life experiences), never read that when you are too young, sex scenes will then automatically make you feel awkward....

Then again, why make assumptions on people based on their fanfics (or porn for that matter) preferences, they don't always match up to real life, which is at least personally part of why I read fanfiction...

I think straight girls who are grossed out by straight fanfic smut are really fucking weird, to be honest. I understand not liking straight porn because most of it is targeted toward men and can be pretty misogynistic, but a lot of straight fanfic smut is written by women for women, and the quality level is just as good as yaoi fanfiction.

Therefore, if you're a straight girl, and you refuse to read straight smut because you find it "gross," then I think you either a) have some serious internalized misogyny going on, b) have really low self-esteem about your body, or c) all of the above.

Yeah, a lot of these girls make the argument taht they can't read het because they're not into vagina or whatever, but I have literally only met one guy on the internet who exclusively reads yuri/femslash. Most of the ones I've seen are super into het pairings, which makes me think that this is pretty much exclusively a female slash shipper problem.

There's been a lot written on why women like slash, some of it complete junk, but for me personally I can buy the idea that reading a romance between two guys is appealing on two levels: 1. I get to focus completely on the male form/masculinity without worrying about 2. my own insecurities coming out, e.g. feeling inadequate compared to the woman in het pairings.

For reference, out of 7ish pairings I read regularly 2 of them are het. I just really need to be able to identify with the woman in the pairing to be able to enjoy the sexual fantasy - basically the same reason I don't like mainstream porn. And I don't think I should have to apologise for not getting off on what OP thinks I should get off to.

Nope. A lot of het fic written by women for women can come packaged with the exact same bullshit that shows up in het stuff written by men for men, because women have internalized the exact same sexism. Have you ever read romance novels? By women, for women, and some of the most godawful misogynistic tropes you'll ever see, consistent across the entire genre. That bullshit seeps into het fanfic, too - well, less seeping, more like a fucking tsunami.

Now, now slash fic can be just as awful when it's bad (such as when one of the men is the designated "woman" and therefore gets all the crap an actual woman would get) but I think good male slash fic is, at least, is less likely to come with woman-specific baggage than good het fic. Such baggage can ruin an otherwise excellent epic for me because, as a woman, I read to get a break from that shit, not to trip over it in my escapism.

And I say that as someone who loves sexy het and despairs of how difficult it is to find any that doesn't turn into a pseudo-rape fantasy at some point. Just talking about it makes me irritable. So I guess what I'm trying to say here is, bite me.

The more I read you comments, OP, the more I see you're really just speaking of you own personal experience. Come over to the X-Men comic book fandom, where many het guys want nothing but lesbians and cringe at the thought of the X-Women sleeping with dudes. Look at the seriously huge fandoms, like Harry Potter and A:LAB where the most bloody of ship wars were fought by women, and over het pairings. The phenomenon of people liking only slah or only femslah exists, but neither of them as big as it seems in the confines of you own corner of the internet. The majority of the world's population are really staunch het lovers that detest both slash and femslash, so there's really nothing for you to be concerned about... in the heet-hating department.
