First of all , I want to say that your comment really made me think. I'm not being sarcastic here.

I'm starting to think maybe if I want to discuss the world building and such of a particular fandom I spin my query / topic starter around 'discussing how the world works and world building and ,make the focus of the thread on world rather than character. I do realize people are less enthusiastic about a character they don't know but perhaps they would be more engaged in a topic discussing something like "The wizard community of [country that isn't America or Europe]"

I think that would be a wonderful way to go about something like that. It would not only encourage people talking about the world, but I expect people that are only interested in canon would be happy to talk about it!

I don't care terribly much for OCs in SPN, but I would love to discuss the world outside of Dean, Sam, and Castiel. What other hunters think of all the crap that has happened. What angels think of everything. But I would be terribly bored talking about OC Bob in SPN.
